Responsible for providing educational, behavioral, and structural support in the classroom in the instance of a teacher's absence. Substitute teachers are responsible for practices and behaviors which demonstrate necessary teaching competencies, effective classroom management, positive personal qualities, and other instructional matters. The role of the Substitute teacher is to ensure that all students have continual and equal instructional opportunities and to provide a clean, safe, and therapeutic learning environment.



Essential Job Functions
 
  • Serve as a substitute teacher, as assigned, for planned and unplanned teacher absences
  • Provide educational, behavioral, and structural support in TCC’s classrooms
  • Implement treatment plans and/or IEP’s as directed by the therapist, social worker, and teacher
  • Meet with classroom teachers monthly to develop, update, and maintain cohesive substitute lesson plans
  • Serve as a classroom substitute teacher for the 8-week summer program
  • Provide supervision, leadership, and mentoring to build successful working relationships with classroom staff
  • Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and effective teaching practices
  • Must maintain an active Colorado of Education professional teaching license
  • Must maintain a current and unexpired professional license
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all personnel related matters


Physical Requirements
 
  • Must be able to perform physical restraints or containments with an aggressive, physically acting-out child

Working Conditions
 
  • In person on campus work/school and treatment environment

Minimum Qualifications
 
  • BA degree in Education and/or Human Service field
  • Must have a valid Colorado Substitute Teaching License
  • Experience in an educational setting with children who have experienced complex trauma
  • K-12 teaching experience preferred
  • Maintains professional licensure and valid CO driver license
  • All positions require a pre-employment drug test, FBI fingerprint check, CBI criminal records check, child abuse registry check, motor vehicle record check, academic record verification, and reference checks
